With June now in the rearview mirror, so is LGBTQ Pride month.
This year has seen the most attention to the celebration of the homosexual movement, at least in terms of advertising, with many companies using a combo of the rainbow flag, the transgender flag, and other forms of sexual deviancy and dysphoria in their advertising campaigns.
There has also been controversy revolving around transgender athletes, or biological men competing as women -- in the upcoming Olympics later this month, an NFL player being celebrated for making a video annnouncement that he is openly gay, as well as controversy over states passing laws to protect girls and womens’ sports.
However, the most disturbing act that took place at mid-month did not receive much media attention. But it needs to be addressed because this is a sign of how low our culture has sunk in terms of morality.
June 12 marked the five-year anniversary of the mass shooting of the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. As many recall, that tragedy, which was carried out by a shooter who was eventually killed by police, resulted in the deaths of 49 people and injuries to 53 others in the early hours of that date in 2016. At that time, it was the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.
Pulse was an establishment known to be frequented by people living the gay lifestyle, which means most of the victims, if not all, were LGBTQ-affirming.
By this time, with homosexuality/lesbianism accepted by most of society, social justice activism growing and less than a year after same-sex marriage was declared legal by the supreme court, the media was all over the story until the end of the month. These factors made martyrs out of both the deceased and the nightclub.
On June 25, with the month winding down, President Biden signed a law to make both the victims and the nightclub a national memorial.
As devastating this event was, making martyrs out of the victims is absurd. This is putting them on the level of fallen military or police heroes. These people did not do anything heroic. They were living an immoral lifestyle that is an abomination to God.
But, unfortunately, because we live in a day where not only is homosexuality accepted, living this lifestyle is receiving royal treatment in the same manner as ethnic minorities. Opposition to the lifestyle, regardless of reason, is demonized, even by professing “Christians,”
LGBTQ people rightfully should be treated with respect, especially with the harsh treatment they have received in the past and still do today.
But there is a difference. The Lord has chosen the gender and race for each person, and contrary to popular opinion, He did not make anyone gay. Each person was made to have a mate of the other gender. But, still as Christians, while we can accept and respect their choice to live the lifestyle, we still should not be endorsing it (Rom. 1:32).
However, back to the nightclub issue, this is part of Biden’s plan to grant “rights” for gay and transgender people. He has taken steps since taking office in January, such as allowing gender-confused people to compete as the gender they identify with and getting the “Equality Act” passed in the House. He is hoping for the Senate to pass it, so he can do the same. If that happens, it will be a devastating day for Christian churches, institutions and businesses, who intend to abide by Biblical beliefs. That is another story. But, in the meantime, the action to make the Pulse Nightclub into a national memorial reveals a continuous dive into a Romans 1 (v. 18-32) culture.
Also, don’t forget, pride comes before a fall (Prov. 16:18).
Thanks for pointing this out, America has become insensitive to what the Bible has to say regarding these matters.
